Carson McCullers- The Member of the Wedding
Lately, I have been spending my time searching for mid-century treasures in the many antique shops in the city. One of my proudest discoveries has been this beautiful teak bar cart. I found it at The Other Shop on Divisadero and Page, which has become one of my favorite shops to peruse on a weekly basis. Also, on the bottom of the cart is my 1953 Scrabble game, complete with all original pieces, which was an Ebay find!
Recital day tomorrow!
After months of practice, occasionally tearful lessons, and invaluable support from parents, my little darlings get to show off their talented fingers to their friends and family.
I have the best job.
Hello, Tumblr world! It’s been awhile.
I will forever say that Clementi is one of the most underrated composers. This is one of his most beloved sonatinas that I recorded yesterday.

The only way to live…
Also, I adore this movie.
A few days ago, during one of my frequent visits to the Haight Goodwill, I discovered this charming little recipe box. Once home, I discovered a scrap of crumpled paper inside, which turned out to be a return address label. Naturally, I googled the name, and this is what I unearthed:
Irmgard Ballin, 92, died October 2, 2011 after years of illness. She was born in Germany, and lived in Turkey and Palestine before immigrating to the United States in 1948. She worked as a laboratory technician at UCSF and retired in 1978. Irmgard was an excellent photographer, enjoyed traveling, opera, and art museums. Her friends remember her for her kindness.
Besides the above obituary, I also found an online memorial guest book:
Irmgard was an example of old-world culture and graciousness. It was a pleasure to know her.
I wish I could have met her. I bet she told wonderful stories.
How To Be Alone
“Society is afraid of alonedom, like lonely hearts are wasting away in basements, like people must have problems if, after a while, nobody is dating them. But lonely is a freedom that breathes easy and weightless, and lonely is healing if you make it.”
